About us

Cliffe Bonfire Society is one of the oldest bonfire societies in Lewes. It was formed in 1853 and bar the 1st and 2nd World Wars has processed almost every year on the streets in Lewes on the 5 November to remember the failed attempt by Guy Fawkes and his fellow conspritors to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605.

The 5 November is also an important time for rememberance where we honor those who gave their lives in the two World Wars and subsequent conflicts.

We also honor the 17 Protestant Martyrs who were burned outside Lewes Town Hall in XX in the purge by Queen Mary the 1st.
